Celebrating the LGBTIQ Community of Pierce County, Washington

About Us

Here is who we are and a little about ourselves! Feel free to say hello the next time you see us.

Frank - Co-Chair

Born and raised in Seattle, I'm a true native. Since moving to Puyallup's South Hill in 1992, I've spent my time living and learning about Pierce County. Urban sprawl means people on the move, thus our communities becoming part of many communities throughout the Pierce County area.
I have been involved in Community Service work of one kind or another from an early age, from March of Dimes Walk-A-Thons, to telethon's for local charities. I got into planning events with Variety Club of Pacific Northwest, working as a Volunteer with the yearly Haunted House project, I then became a full time staff person in charge of Special Events dealing with Event Logistics.
Fast forward - I got involved with the former Freedom Day Committee in Seattle, now Seattle Out And Proud, as the Logistics Chair helping to produce the Seattle Pride Day event. I spent the last of my 5 years with them as Co-Chair.
Upon retirement from that organization I was approached by Out In Tacoma to be a member of their board and here I've been working as the Logistics Chair. This year is my first as Co-Chair of the organization. Being part of a Not-for-Profit Gay Production Company is a very fulfilling! I enjoy my commitment to the LGBTQ community, City of Tacoma and Pierce County.
I look forward to many more years of community service and the opportunity to continue to meet the diverse people of our community at our many events throughout the year!

Shelly - Co Chair

A native of Wisconsin, I moved out to the Pacific NW in 1990 to attend the Art Institute of Seattle where I received a degree in Business. I began a career in the Financial Services industry in 1993.
Since 2003, I’ve worked for Accessor Capital Management and represent their fund family, The Accessor Funds, within both the Institutional and Retail Market arenas.
Since moving to Tacoma back in 2000, I realized the importance of community participation and joined the Rainbow Center Board in January of 2001. With this opportunity came much more awareness regarding the needs of the LGBTQIA community and I’ve worked to implement solutions that meet the varied needs of a truly diverse and wonderful group of neighbors here in Tacoma. After satisfying my 6 year commitment, I stepped down from the Rainbow Center Board and have expanded my responsibilities with Out In Tacoma as current Co-Chair.  In 2004, I helped form this group and I look forward to accomplishing the vision set forth at that time to provide opportunities for all in the LGBTQIA to work and play together and promote an inclusive queer community abundant in love and respect.
My greatest loves include music, film, my four legged family of cats and dogs, refurbishing my 112 year old Victorian Home and my never-ending supply of wonderful friends and family.

Robin - Treasurer

I'm a native of Tacoma and graduated from Lincoln High School in 1980. In 200,1 I began involvement in the LGBT community. I served on the planning committee for the Dyke March in Seattle and, quite by accident, I was 'recruited' into playing Ginger in the Gilligan's Island skit in 2001's Out in The Park. That was a blast and I had no idea that years later I'd be a board member of Out in Tacoma! During the early 2000's, I involved myself mainly with Dunshee House in Seattle. For the last several years I've been a member of the Pride Foundation's scholarship committee and last year I participated on the grant review committee.
In 2006 I began attending Pierce Pride, Rainbow Center, and Out in Tacoma board meetings. I volunteered for and became Out in Tacoma's Treasurer and earlier this year I became the Rainbow Center's Secretary. I'm also considering board membership with Pierce Pride.
I have thoroughly enjoyed my time with Out in Tacoma and Rainbow Center. I especially look forward to this coming year as OIT expands our community events. Professionally, I hold a master's degree in Organization Management and have completed two years toward a doctorate in Organization Leadership.

Stephanie - General Board Member

Born in Alabama, I made my way up north through Bogota, Colombia, and PDX. For some stupid reason, we settled in Federal Way of all the glamorous places. I've been volunteering my time and energy for non-profit work since I was a child. My mother raised me to fight for the "underdog" and growing up in F-Dub, I saw a lot of youth being punished and abused as they were beginning to express their sexuality. I went to a grip of LGB support groups before I just got too mad. I wanted action, I wanted us to admit we were powerful! No one would, so I got all the queers I knew and we started The UnSociety when I was 16, a BGLAD off-shoot. I later joined AFSC and other amazing LGBTQIA organizations, even speaking nationally at queer conferences about the realities of queer and trans homeless youth. Yeah, I'm sorta smart like that. Through these great orgs., I was able to go to Anti-Racism training and Transgender Awareness Training. I took a small break from activism and then a friend roped me in to helping with Pride in Tacoma. It's funny, but I stayed and he left! I met Shelly and an unconventional love affair called Out In Tacoma began. I was the prettiest Co-Chair of OIT from 2005-2007 after being the saucy Secretary in 2004. I enjoy science, nature and all animals. I am currently in Culinary Arts School, think unicorns rule and owe everything to my lack of faith. PEACE!
