Celebrating the LGBTIQ Community of Pierce County, Washington

Daffodils in your face!

By Stephanie

The float was a tremendous success! We couldn't have done it without the amazing sponsors and volunteers that truly brought it to life.

This year's theme was remembering your first Daffodil Parade. We used the idea to show LGBTQ folks through time inspired by the first Daffodil Queen of 1943, Miss Elizabeth Lee Wotton.

I donned a white cape with a GIANT tiara to show off my vampy 1930's style. Roger rocked a suit and tie and read a Life Magazine from 1955 with Rock Hudson on the cover. Robin shined as a revolutionist from the 1970's screaming "Power to the People" as we rode by. Shelly was totally awesome as the 1980's chick... a bit too convincing if you ask me. And last but not least, a youth represented 2008 and the future for the LGBTQ community.

Out In Tacoma would like to thank our sponsors Pride Foundation, the ACLU Foundation, Open Arms Community Church, Rainbow Center, Tacoma Lesbian Concern, Old Lesbians for Organizing Change, and Tacoma PFLAG!

We also want to say special thanks to all of the wonderful volunteers that helped build this float. Queerkids were such an amazing group and we hope to see much more of them. In addition, we want to thank Oasis Youth Center and The Imperial Sovereign Court of Tacoma.

Remember, we plan to run this in the Seattle Pride parade and still encourage you or your organization to join us by donning a banner and some sun block and walking beside us.

Volunteer Sweep 2K8!

This is it! We are looking for a few good folks to volunteer with Out In Tacoma. You don't have to join the Board or go to meetings, all you have to do is want to help. It can be by hammering, painting, lifting, sitting, laughing and more. Share your talents with us and we'll make it the most fun you've ever had volunteering. Email Roger for more information on how to have fun, make friends, and learn the value of glitter!

Wright Park Construction & Pride
Change of Board
Folks may have noticed all the fences going up around Wright Park. Construction began July 2008 to revamp the Park with construction scheduled to be complete prior to July 12, 2008, the event date for Out In The Park. We are currently working with Metro Parks to verify electrical and general park layout for the event. We'll let you know if anything changes!
We started out the Fiscal year with two new General Board members and a shift of Co-Chair and Secretary! Click here to learn more about us, our members and why it is we do what we do.
